A SPRING IN UMBRIA TO SMELL
“To see the fields and the river, it isn’t enough to open the window.
To see the trees and the flowers, it isn’t enough not to be blind”.
This is how the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa explains the magic of discovering nature. It is not granted that who sees actually sees, likewise – I add – it is not granted that someone bind cannot admire the magnificence of nature. The proof stays in the experience of Wolfgang Fasser, who lives in Casentino and who I personally met few years ago: he guided us in a nocturnal stroll in the woods, even if he is blind since he was 20 years old. In this period, nature offers us a lot to smell: aromatic plants in the garden are full of essential oils and therefore super-scented. Let’s smell them, let’s dive in them and after – if we ever resurface – let’s put them in the pan, because fried they really are delicious.
